Handouts of Undergraduate Lecture Courses of Quantum Chemistry I, II, and III (SY2022)

Kaoru Yamanouchi
Emeritus Professor, The University of Tokyo
Project Professor, Institute for Attosecond Laser Facility, The University of Tokyo

I had been teaching the lecture courses of Quantum Chemistry for the undergraduate students in the Chemistry Course of School of Science for 26 years until the end of the School Year 2022 when I retired from the professor position of the University of Tokyo. I upload here the handouts I distributed in School Year 2022 at the lecture courses, Quantum Chemistry I in Winter Semester for the 2nd-year students, Quantum Chemistry II in Summer Semester for the 3rd-year students, and Quantum Chemistry III in Winter Semester for the 3rd-year students, so that you can download the handouts.

In the handouts, many practice problems are included. By solving these problems one by one by yourself, you will be able to understand the contents well without additional explanations in a form of lectures.

I hope students will use the handouts for their studies on quantum mechanics and quantum chemistry. I believe that the contents of the handouts will be of use also for university professors when they give classes on related themes. When you use the descriptions or the data in the handouts, please do not fail to mention that they are from the handouts of the Quantum Chemistry lecture courses. Please also do not post the handouts to other websites or distribute the handouts to others.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Associate Professor Tsuyoshi Kato, Assistant Professor Kana Yamada, Assistant Professor Takashi Hiroi (now Associate Professor at Shibaura Institute of Technology), and Associate Professor Erik Lotstedt for their support for the Quantum Chemistry lecture courses.
