September 2010   Press release issued

On Thursday September 16th from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, we held a press conference in Room 205, 2nd floor, Faculty of Science Bldg. 1, to announce that we have made the "First Observation of Electron Scattering in an Intense Ulrtrashort Pulse Laser Field in the World." This achievement has been published on the September 17 issue of Physical Review Letters (American Physical Society). This is the first successful observation in the world of laser-assisted electron scattering using an intense ultrashort pulse laser field. This study has not only made it possible to make observations in "a mixed state of light and matter" but also demonstrated that changes in molecular structure can be observed at "the same temporal resolution as the pulse duration of ultrashort pulselasers" as snapshots of the electron diffraction pattern.
